SNOW, ICE, & SNOWMEN?????????

Although we didn't see any of the white fluffy snow or ice outside, we created our own snowmen, and did many experiments with ice inside. Getting to play outside in late January was as much a treat as seeing our shadows and learning about the groundhog. Our boys continue to enjoy and reap the advantages of the small group atmosphere.

Since we didn't get any real snow, we used marshmallows to create our shapes and cubes.

The game called Knock Out gave added practice with recognition of lower case letters. The boys used a drill to knock out cubes of letters.

The tornado tube is always a favorite.

The boys were very ingenious on ways to melt their ice cubes. Some poured salt on it, some put it in the sun, and others went to melt it in warm water.

This picture shows frozen water (solids). We kept them out overnight to see if they would melt back into liquids. They did.

Our Kindergarten Bridge Class is ringing in the new year with exciting themes and challenges. We began with a study of arctic animals, their homes, foods, and what their footprints look like in the snow. As we still have had some outside play time in the last two weeks, we are still anticipating that first real snowball. Until then, we play in our indoor igloo and fish with our magnetic fishing poles.

I sure hope my partner gets the numbers in order so I can ring the bell.

Working in pairs is an excellent way to check if skills are being learned. Here one friend makes an AB pattern with cubes, and the other one has to copy it onto paper with colored markers.

The father penguin has to carry the unhatched egg in a pouch between his legs so........ we thought we'd try to walk (or waddle) as he does. Not as easy as it looks.

We were fishing with our magnetic poles to feed Mr. Penguin.

The weeks before Christmas were full of excitement as we became busy little elves making gifts for our parents. The stories we read reminded us that Christmas is Jesus' birthday, a time for sharing and giving. I hope that all our families had a wonderful holiday vacation and we look forward to seeing you in the new year. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!

ALL ABOARD FOR CHRISTMAS FUN !!!!!!!!!

The excitement and spirit of the Christmas season is in full swing in our Kindergarten Bridge classroom. Our train theme involved educational and fun activities while reinforcing our daily skills. The gingerbread unit led to cooking adventures and lots of active movement.

Decorating our gingerbread boys was easy, but putting the six piece puzzle together was a challenge.

We used our listening skills as Ms. Angela gave a direction to follow. This one was close your eyes and touch your nose. It's harder than it looks.
